Specs at a Glance

Introduced in 2003, the Colorado has since been positioned as the smallest pickup truck available from Chevrolet. The 2019 model year marks yet another entry in its second production cycle, with two cab body styles available: the standard Extended Cab and the slightly larger Crew Cab. Each trim-Base, WT, LT, Z71 and ZR2-is either assigned to a specific cab-and-bed combination or offers a certain range of configuration possibilities.

How is the Performance for these Two Styles?

Typically, the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado is powered by a 2.5-liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine, which produces 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. The ZR2, however, as the performance-oriented trim, goes with the 3.6-liter High Feature V6 with 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque; this engine is pinned to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Base, WT, and LT trims have a 6-speed manual transmission, and Chevrolet puts a 6-speed automatic gearbox on the Z71. Only the Base model gets a standard rear-wheel drive, and the top-level ZR2 is restricted to a four-wheel drivetrain; you have a choice between the two drivetrains on the other trims.

Are there any Major Body Differences?

Regardless of which you choose, the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado bed length is an impressive feature to behold. The Extended Cab of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado is only available with the Long Box bed, which has a length of 74 inches, or 6 feet 2 inches. However, if you choose the Crew Cab, you can choose between the Long Box or the Short Box, which has a length of 61.7 inches (a little over 5 feet). Notably, only the Base model is restricted to one configuration: an Extended Cab with the Long Box. Standard exterior features include halogen headlights, cab-mounted cargo area lamps, a corner-step rear bumper for easier and safer cab access, and 16-inch steel wheels. Upper-level trims are more likely to have heated power side mirrors, and EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, projector-beam headlights, fog lamps, and 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels.

Standout Safety and Tech Features

While the Extended Cab has a maximum occupancy of four people, the Crew Cab can seat up to five people. Standard comfort and convenience features on the midsize pickup truck include cruise control, a 3.5-inch monochromatic driver information screen six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio tuner, a 4-way power driver seat, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, a 7-inch color touchscreen, and the brand-new Chevrolet Infotainment 3 infotainment system.

For safety, the 2019 Colorado includes features such as six airbags (dual front impact, dual front seat-mounted side-impact, and dual side curtain airbags), StabiliTrak for electronic stability control, an anti-lock braking system, electronic traction control, Teen Driver mode for encouraging better teen driving habits, daytime running lamps, and an electrical theft-deterrent system. Added on the Colorado for the 2019 model year is an HD rearview camera. Safety features such as rear parking assist, hill descent control, trailering assist, a Trailering Package, and one-month trial subscriptions to OnStar Safety & Security and Chevrolet Connected Services appear on upper-level trims.
