Chevrolet Engine Not Working

Why Isn't My Car Starting?

There's nothing worse than getting into your automobile and it not starting. While you may have overlooked something simple upon getting into your vehicle, like not pressing the ignition button properly, there may be a more complicated problem that you're not taking into consideration. Let's consider some of the following reasons why your car may not be starting.

Battery Issues

A battery is needed to start up your engine and run a few other items in your automobile. Unfortunately, your battery is only designed to last a few years. If you can't get your engine to turn over at all, we'll check your battery to see if it has a charge, if it can be charged and if it can hold a charge. You may need to replace your battery if something is wrong with it.

Malfunctioning Ignition

Once we've checked out your battery and deemed it ok, we'll take a look at your ignition next. The ignition switch may be malfunctioning, which would result in the engine not turning on. We'll check to see if your headlights are functioning despite the engine not starting.

Broken Starter

Your starter includes a small motor that is electrically powered as it's connected to your battery. When you switch on the ignition, your starter will turn on the engine. Check to see if your engine isn't turning over at all when you try to start it. You may also notice a clicking sound if your starter is broken.

Fuel Filter Clogs

Most manufacturers call for the fuel filter to be changed every 20,000 to 30,000 miles. If you end up developing a clog in your fuel filter, your vehicle won't be able to get enough fuel to the engine. Thus, it won't be able to run correctly. Your owner's manual should provide you with more information on the life expectancy of your filter.

You're Out of Gas

We all hop into our vehicles each week and are preoccupied with other things. Your fuel tank may have run empty despite warnings from your dashboard. Try to keep an eye on your gas gauge, but head right to the gas station when you're alerted that you don't have much fuel left.
