If your engine is overheating, you may not be able to diagnose the issue yourself immediately. Many people neglect to look at their thermostat gauge when driving, though this is often the first indication that something is going wrong. You may also notice that your hood is hot to the touch. Keep an ear open for a clicking sound or a strong burning odor coming from your engine. If you are concerned that something is going on, Seminole Chevrolet would be happy to help you diagnose the problem based on some of the most common issues that we see.
Concerns Regarding the Cooling System
The cooling system in your vehicle is one of the essential parts of keeping your vehicle's temperature controlled. Coolant is the main fluid in this system, and many other working parts contribute to how this system works. There's a lot that can go wrong that can result in your engine getting too hot.
Water Pump Issues That Cause Poor Temperature Control
A water pump exists under your hood, and your water pump needs to be in good condition to work correctly to maintain proper engine temperature. We'll look for signs of rust or erosion during your routine maintenance appointments, but damage can occur at any time.
When Your Radiator Can't Maintain Adequate Temperatures
Fans and coolant need to be flowing freely through your engine without any issues to prevent overheating. There's a lot that can cause fans to lock up, coolant to leak, etc.
Thermostat Issues That Affect Engine Temperature
You have a thermostat gauge on your dashboard that reports your engine's temperature level to you. Still, there is also a thermostat inside of your engine that monitors the temperature of your engine. There's a valve in this unit that must be open for the coolant to go through.
Damage to Your Belts and Hoses
Hoses and belts should be adequately attached to their connections; they need to be free of holes, and corrosion and replacement may be needed occasionally. This will all prevent overheating.
Feel free to contact Seminole Chevrolet if your engine is overheating. You may have this problem intermittently, but it's ideal to have the problem checked out before it becomes a more significant issue. You don't want to find yourself stranded on the side of the road waiting for help.
